Have you ever really really wanted to go somewhere, but it really looks like its not going to happen? Well that’s what happened to me last week.
You see, I was all excited for a wonderful trip to the beach, a trip I had been anticipating for months. I was looking forward to going to Ocean City, MD and last Saturday the weather forecast was quite grim. It was calling for rain and even a chance of thunderstorms all day long. BOOOOOOO!!!!!!
Needless to say I was rather blown at that!!! After all, I had taken the day off of work and was looking forward to getting out of DC, especially since I hadn’t been to Ocean City in at least ten years. I wasn’t sure of the next time I would be able to go.
I was so excited about the next day that I didn’t get to sleep at all, no……noooooooooo!! I had made the arrangements for my ride the day before and in the morning I was concerned as there was already a light rain outside, I thought it was a portent of the rest of the day at the time.
The phone rings and its my uncle, he let me know that rather than me catching the bus to his house he would come pick me up. Needless to say I quite happy to hear that. He is awesome!!!
Soon thereafter he arrives and I was already sitting on my porch. He greeted me with a very typical smile. Then we were off to his house to wait for our ride.
Our ride came and we get into the vehicle and start our journey. Pretty soon the rain starts again and gets very heavy. In fact it was so heavy it was pretty hard to see outside. At that point I was concerned about my dream being deferred. Yet, after looking at the weather forecast from different sources I decided to be optimistic and look on the “bright side of things” even though the weather outside was anything but.
We met at the rendevous point and I was slightly alarmed that there was only one other car on the parking lot. (I found out a little but later that everyone else had already left and in fact were past Annapolis.) They had said that the sky was clear there so I saw that as hope the day wouldn’t be a disaster after all.
To the delight of the rest of my companions and myself the sky did indeed clear. We were on the way!!!!
Going across the Bay bridge was a pretty cool thing, it is very high above the Chesapeake Bay and as I looked to my right I could see a darkening of the sky in the distance.
O hear we go again, I thought what we had was over now!!!
We passed marshes and an Acme store (Yes, an Acme store!!!) and eventually stopped at a McDonald’s. I wasn’t hungry as I already had food that I finished up then.
We then continued on our way, and I was growing more and more uncomfortable from sitting in the middle and no, my name isn’t Malcolm, nor am I a monkey although I know those that might beg to differ on the latter one. Ha ha ha!!!
We get closer, and I wanted to get closer still. It seemed like an eternity as my excitement rose and then, we were there.
I was like a dream, a simple fantasy……..
We met up with the rest of the caravan and then I was off to the beach. I took off my shoes and felt the warm sand under my feet. It felt really good.
I laid my towel at a chosen spot with the group and then I was off to the water.
Funny thing is that I ended up “under da sea” as a large wave came and hit me it was awesome!!!
The water was rather comfortable, not cold at all but pleasantly cool much to my surprise. I Then started swimming further and further out, to the point that my feet would no longer touch the bottom when I stood up.
I swam back to shore and watched as the tide came and gone. I go up on the beach above the water line and I dig in the sand. Very soon I had found a very interesting creature. A Mole crab. (Emerita talpoida) to be exact. In case you were wondering it doesn’t look like a regular crab per se, but is completely harmless.
I showed it to my friends most of which would inquire as to what it was. After taking the pictures which are below I took it back to its home, back to the beach. I wish it well.
Good grief, I am still typing? I really have gotten into this post haven’t I. Oh well!!!!
Ok where was I? Uhhh…….
Um, yeah. Its one dem days uh, k I got it. I was in the water and then sometimes I would go back to my stuff and I would socialize for a while with those that hadn’t already joined me in the water. In fact some never got in the water at all. Such a pity!!!
I ended up getting some of my little cousins and they were able to experience the ocean. I really liked seeing their smiling faces as they played in the water.
They would get hit with the waves and yet they were still happy. It made me think of my little sister who I hope to have with me next time.
My uncle got by this time had gotten into the water and I showed him where the water came to my chest, and he got hit by the waves as well.
You know, in general I like seeing people smile whether their name is Sarah or otherwise
Then it started to rain. Then the lifeguards were telling us to get out of the water and off of the beach area but that we could leave our chairs and things there. Why? I wondered. It was because they had become aware of a storm that was on the way. I then heard the thunder roll.
Hmm, I could continue and in fact I will. It will be in another post however. Thanks to all who have been reading my story so far. I promise I will share more of it with you
